What are Facebook Custom Audiences
Custom Audiences are a tool within the Facebook Advertising platform that allows you to target your ads to a very precise niche of highly-targeted users.
Custom Audiences can be made up of website visitors, your email subscribers, customer phone numbers or even Facebook Id’s of particular users.
For example, lets say you have accumulated a email list of 1,000 people who have bought your product. If you were to upload that email list into a Custom Audience, Facebook will attempt to match those emails against their users.
More than likely not all of the emails will match. Suppose Facebook was able to match 70% or 700 emails, you now have a Custom Audience of 700 people who recently bought your product that you can precisely target with Facebook Ads for a new (or similar) product you may come out with in the future.
That is powerful, to be able to only pay to have your add delivered to the most ideal of ideal prospects.
Different Type of Custom Audiences
Standard Custom Audience – Created by uploading a list of email addresses, phone numbers or Facebook User Id’s you want to target and Facebook will try to match these against their database. Usually Facebook will be able to match between 60-80% and create a custom audience from the matches.
Lookalike Custom Audience – After creating a Custom Audience, you can have Facebook create a Lookalike Audience. Facebook will create a much larger audience with similar characteristics (such as age, gender, or interests) as your custom audience.
Website Custom Audience – These are created by placing a small piece of tracking code on your website, Facebook will create an audience based on the people who visit the page or pages you have installed the tracking code on.
How To Create An Email Custom Audience
To create your first Custom Audience, simply create a text document with a list of email addresses, phone numbers or Facebook User ID’s. Be sure to place each item on a separate line like this:
If you are using an autoresponder such as aWeber, GetResponse, MailChimp, etc., you can export a list of all your contacts. You will want to export it as a .txt or .csv. Once exported delete all columns except the email address.
Next go to the Facebook Ad Manager https://www.facebook.com/ads/manage
Click on Audiences in the left-side menu and then click the Create Audience button and select Custom Audience
